Applied online, took about a month to hear back about moving to the next stage. Had a 40-minute multiple choice test with 23 questions. First 9 were about MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and pretty easy. Next 14 were a mix of English, math, logic, and situational, also easy. If you pass that, you go to a written test. The written test was 35 minutes with 3 questions. Had to write answers in MS Word and upload. This stage was way harder than the first one. 35 minutes isn't enough to strategize, type, and proofread. Barely finished. This is where I didn't pass. If I had passed, the next step would probably be an interview.

It was a very structured interview process, all the same for every candidate because of government equal opportunity policies. The interview process included multiple phone screenings with the hiring manager and HR staff, and then an onsite interview. During the onsite, I had to answer some pre-determined questions (this was before Covid). The interviewers couldn't ask follow-up questions or answer my questions, to avoid influencing me, so that the interview process would be exactly the same for all candidates.

So first there was this test that took about 40 mins, mostly situational questions like 'what would you do in a certain situation?' and an interactive excel part. If you passed, you got an interview. For the interview, they gave me a sheet with several questions and a few minutes to prep. Then I went into a room with three interviewers who asked the questions one by one. They weren't allowed to ask anything else or interact, just read the questions from the sheet. It felt super awkward, especially since it was supposed to be 50 mins but only had 6 questions and no real back-and-forth. It was like I was just talking to myself, which really doesn't seem like a good way to see if someone can do the job.

It starts with a review of your CV and cover letter. Then, there's a writing test. Finally, you'll have an interview with about 3 or 4 people from different departments to ensure the process is fair.
