First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Confluent.
Solutions Engineer
The interview process was not great because they told me the wrong things about what the job required. I talked to the recruiter and the hiring manager multiple times, and they both looked at my background and said I didn't need to know Confluent products or data streaming. But then the technical interview, which lasted an hour, was all about cloud stuff and data management, with only like two minutes on Kafka. After all that, they told me they couldn't move forward because they needed someone with data streaming experience. This really wasted my time and theirs. They should have been upfront about what they wanted from the start, even before contacting anyone, to make sure everyone was on the same page and the process was fair and efficient.

Solutions Engineer
Started with a coding challenge, then a quick chat with the recruiter. After that, I interviewed with the Hiring Manager, and finished up with two 1-on-1s with team members.

Solution Engineer
I was initially contacted by a Confluent recruiter via email, and we quickly scheduled an interview for the next day. After waiting 10 minutes past the scheduled time, I emailed the recruiter, and the call eventually happened 40 minutes late for a brief 15-minute chat covering basic resume questions. The recruiter promised to follow up with more info about the role and company, but I had to send another email a week later to get it. Next, I was set up for an interview with a senior SE, though the recruiter didn't specify the interview's focus. I prepared by researching the company and its products extensively, assuming it would be a standard meeting. To my surprise, the senior SE announced it would be a technical interview covering networking, cloud architecture, APIs, storage, and server architecture. Following this interview, there was radio silence from Confluent for two weeks. I reached out again to inquire about my application status and received a generic rejection email with no specific feedback. Overall, the entire interview experience was subpar, and I was not impressed with Confluent's recruitment process.
