Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Concordia University St. Paul.
Admissions Counselor
The hiring manager was responsive and friendly. I felt comfortable asking questions before and after the interview. Everyone was nice and I was excited to learn more about Concordia.
- Can you tell me about your recruiting experience?
Faculty
The interview process for this faculty position involved a review of my CV by a faculty committee. I was asked questions about my past work, my teaching approach, and how I handle problems. Interestingly, despite it being a Christian (LCMS) university, none of the questions touched on religious aspects.
- Tell me about your previous experience.
- What is your teaching philosophy?
- How do you approach problem-solving?
Development Officer
The online application was easy. About three weeks later, I got a call for an in-person interview. They also sent two role-play scenarios for the interview. I interviewed with three team members and one faculty member. I was told there would be one more round with two finalists. It was one of the best processes I've been through, but I wish I'd known there would only be two rounds beforehand.
- How willing would you be to talk about your faith with a potential donor?
- What makes you the best candidate for this position?
- What would your colleagues say about you?
Assistant Coach
Had an informal meeting with the head coach in the department office. The whole thing was pretty casual, mostly talking about coaching philosophy and program culture. Didn't meet any other department staff. The head coach made the hiring decision all on their own.
- Tell me about your experience and any on-the-job successes.
- What strategic changes have you implemented that positively impacted past programs?
- How familiar are you with NCAA and University rules and policies?
