Concho Interview Questions
& Process

Got connected with the company via on-campus recruiting at a career fair. They mentioned there were 5 openings, with 3 slots already reserved for previous summer interns. I applied through my college website. Around ten of us were selected for an on-campus interview and a dinner the night before. Afterward, I got a call saying only myself and one other student made it to the second, on-site interview. I really enjoyed my interviews; the people were very nice. Unfortunately, neither the other student nor I were chosen for the internship. After a two-week wait, I was informed they decided on two other students from a different college. They did say they really enjoyed my interview and would consider me for a full-time role.

I flew out to Midland for an interview with Concho, all in one day. My flight got in at 9:30 am, but my interview wasn't until 2 pm. There were no rental cars available, not even in Odessa, so I ended up waiting at the airport for 4 hours and changed in the restroom there. I took an Uber to the downtown office for the interview. The first person I met with rushed through the interview, maybe 15 minutes tops, and was very unfriendly. Then I met with a couple more people. It felt like they had already decided not to move forward with me because everyone seemed to be rushing. It was a really bad interview experience, maybe the worst of my career. I also had to pay for my own Ubers, over $100 total. They had told me they'd reimburse me for a rental car, but I couldn't get one, and they only booked my flight a week in advance. I'm surprised they paid for the flight, but I guess they got a good deal since I had to wait so long. To top it off, I never heard back about not getting an offer, even though I know they hired someone. I suspect it was age-related. Honestly, I'm glad I didn't get an offer from a company that treats candidates so poorly and disrespectfully. I expected more.

I had an on-campus interview with two staff members, and then they flew me out to their office for an additional day of interviews. The additional day consisted of four 30-minute interviews with people at all levels of the company hierarchy.

It was a great opportunity, they flew me out. Really nice people and office. But it required a lot of field work. Didn't get back to me about whether they would hire me or not so I didn't appreciate that.
