My first chat with the recruiter was great, we both felt I was a good match for the job description. But then, about 20 minutes into the second round, they told me I didn't have enough experience and that the team couldn't train anyone. The job said 1-3 years of experience and a $50K budget, which I had. If I'd gotten past that, the last step would've been an unpaid task and a presentation to the hiring manager. Honestly, the whole thing felt like a waste of my time. They could've been clearer in the job listing or vetted candidates better from the start.

I had a 30 min. screening interview with HR 9 days after I applied. She said I would know the outcome in two business days, but it has now been a full week past that time and she has entirely ghosted. Her communications come from no-reply emails, so there's no way to reach out to request an update or closure. Although I was ghosted and didn't make it through next steps, here's what she outlined for the 1.5-2 week process: an interview with the CEO, an interview with CRO, the hiring manager, and a project submitted to the CRO and CEO.

So after applying and sending my resume, I had to take an online grammar test and then do three writing assignments. It took about a month to get through it all and then I was approved to start picking and writing assignments for clients. I didn't have any one-on-one interviews. The only people I interacted with were editors who reviewed my test writing projects and gave me feedback.

It was a standard two round interview process. The team seemed nice, and I had a good conversation with the CEO, but then they ghosted me. This seems pretty typical of companies these days. I'm fine if I'm not the right fit, but getting no response at all really shows how much they value (or don't value) their people. Also, it's interesting they want employees paid based on performance, but the company itself doesn't get paid based on performance. That really said a lot to me.
