Personal Trainer
So it was like a three part thing. The first part was like a talk and written test about my experience and what they were looking for. The second part was a written and hands-on test where I had to show I knew how to put together a workout plan. The last part was them deciding if they wanted to offer me the job or if they had more questions for me.
- Can you describe how you'd handle client scenarios and develop their workout programs?
- Tell me about your experience and your understanding of what the company expects.
- Show us your knowledge of creating workout plans through a written and physical evaluation.
Personal Trainer
The interview started with a timed exercise where I had to identify the best exercise for each muscle group. I wasn't told it was timed beforehand. The manager was a bit condescending. Next, I was asked to shadow trainers. I was paired with a trainer who handed over a client to me. The client thought I did great, but I only had about 5 minutes with her. Then, a class suddenly started, and I was observing. The trainer told me it's good to talk to clients, which I already know. However, I was not informed that I would be running a class of 30 people during the interview or application. The manager, who seemed very young, was seen texting and joking around. He said he'd follow up, but when I called, he seemed to have forgotten my name and said he'd look into it. It's unprofessional for a manager not to know who might be hired.
- What do you do in your free time?
Sales and Operations Manager
Applied online for the VP of Sales role, but after a phone chat with the president, I was asked to do a personality and IQ test. Passed that and had a 1-hour phone interview. Then flew out for a 2-hour in-person meeting with the president, which was a bit awkward as he seemed to forget prior conversations. He then offered me the Regional Sales and Operations Manager position in Richmond, VA, which I accepted. A few weeks later, I had a 1-hour Zoom interview with an associate. I followed up with them and was told to expect news in a few days. After two more weeks, I contacted the president again but never got a response about the next steps or the outcome. While I'm okay with not getting the job, the lack of professional communication after multiple interviews shows it's probably not a good cultural fit.

Fitness Training Sales Director
First, they'll want to know about your background, your passion for fitness, and your understanding of what makes a good salesperson. Then, they'll tell you more about the job. If they like you, you'll come back to shadow and make sure it's a good fit for both sides. Definitely sit down and weigh the pros and cons carefully. This is a competitive role, not for the unmotivated.
- Are you comfortable approaching and speaking with anyone?
