First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Compass.
Marketing Coordinator
The interviews were pretty straightforward, with standard questions. No one made me feel interrogated or like they were trying to trick me. Everyone was super nice and friendly. The only downside was how long the whole process took for an entry-level job. It started with a recruiter call, then a video interview with two marketing team members, followed by another video chat with the hiring manager. After a two-week wait, I had an in-person meeting with someone higher up in marketing. Then, another two-week wait to find out they went with someone else. As much as I liked the people, the drawn-out timeline and long waits for a junior role really left a bad impression. It made me feel like my time wasn't valued, and honestly, I wasn't even sure if I'd accept an offer because of it.
- Can you tell me about your marketing background?
Marketing Coordinator
I had a phone screening that went really well. The recruiter said no experience was needed and wished me luck on the next steps. They set up my next interview for the same day. I spent a lot of time preparing notes for the second interview, knowing everything about the company and the role. When the second interview happened, I felt really unwelcome, intimidated, and uncomfortable. Two women interviewed me. One was nice, listened, and seemed approachable. The other, the main interviewer, acted like she really didn't want to be there. She barely smiled and every question was about my lack of experience. She even asked, rhetorically, if I had direct experience and then asked what set me apart from someone who did. I had prepared thoughtful questions to ask, but while the kind interviewer thought they were great, the other interviewer scoffed and dismissed them, implying they were stupid. I don't think the interviewer cared about the candidate, but rather if they could handle a heavy workload. I've never felt so demeaned and disrespected in an interview. I'm appalled someone would be spoken to like that, especially since they're also supposed to be selling the company. I'm so glad Compass passed on me; I would have declined a third round anyway. I hope someone tells your team because you have serious issues.

- Do you have any direct experience related to this position?
- What makes you stand out compared to candidates who do have prior experience?
Marketing Coordinator
I kicked things off with a phone interview at Compass, which was pretty standard stuff, you know, the recruiter asking the usual first-round questions. Then, I went in for a second interview with three people at their office. It was a great vibe there, everyone was super friendly and seemed to get along really well. After that, I had a final video interview with someone from their NY headquarters. This one was tougher, they asked more direct and challenging questions. I wasn't sure how I did, but I got an offer a few days later. Now that I'm working here, I totally get why people say Compass is amazing. The team really treats you like family, and the culture is just unmatched.
