First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Foster Care Specialist
It was a really weird interview. Started off nice with one staff person, but then I ended up talking to someone else. They seemed really old school and asked stuff that felt totally random and not related to the job. Oh, and they accidentally sent me the interview questions and my answers too.
- Could you describe your previous work experience?
- Are you comfortable and effective in virtual meetings conducted via computer?
Environmental Advisor
The interview was a set format, based on behavioral questions. There were four interviewers in the room. They had a list of questions for us, covering things like time management and adapting to changes. They were really nice and clear about the salary, career growth opportunities, and benefits right from the start.
- Can you share an instance where you had to quickly change your plans at the last minute?
Financial Institutions Examiner
I applied online and about 3 weeks later, I got an email to interview. The interview itself was on Microsoft Teams with 3 people on the panel. They were all about behavioral questions, so I had to give examples of situations I'd been in and how I dealt with them. They were cool with letting me take a moment to think or even coming back to a question if I needed more time. Using the STAR method really helped nail those answers. It felt pretty conversational, and the HR person I worked with handled all the follow-ups.
- Can you describe a situation where you encountered conflict with a client or colleague and explain how you resolved it and what the final result was?
Air Quality Inspector
The hiring manager initiated contact to arrange an interview, which I preferred over HR handling it. We initially planned a phone interview due to my distance, but I later decided to come in person to see the office. I drove 1,000 miles for the interview, which happened to be on my birthday. Upon arrival, after a short wait, the hiring manager conducted the interview. The office had a very casual and informal atmosphere. She provided detailed information about the air quality inspector role, highlighting challenges, especially for women in that region. The interview then shifted to standard questions, interspersed with her personal stories, which felt a bit disruptive. She seemed not to have thoroughly reviewed my application. Towards the end, I was given regulations and a photo to analyze an environmental issue within 10 minutes. I finished the task but waited for her return. She briefly acknowledged my response before sharing her own interpretation of the photo. She mentioned a decision would be made within a week. I never received any follow-up, despite the significant travel involved, and no reimbursement or even a rejection notice was sent, which left a poor impression.
- Tell me about a time you misunderstood something or someone, and what you did to fix it.
