First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at CommonBond.
Data Engineer
The process began with an HR contact, followed by a call with the CTO. During this call, I was tasked with developing a solution to specific problems. The CTO mentioned that the next step would be an onsite interview to present my solution to the team, after which a decision would be made. I had to follow up multiple times over two weeks. In the third week, the CTO finally responded, stating they had chosen a different direction. It's disappointing to be asked to complete a task, only to wait three weeks for a rejection, especially when candidates invest their time. This approach to recruiting, involving task completion followed by lengthy delays and rejections, is not acceptable.

Operations
I applied online and got a phone interview from the manager a few days later. It went well, and they asked standard questions and described the job. I was excited about the company and position. Then I had another phone interview with someone else in the department, which was terrible. This person admitted they knew nothing about the role or job description, and the interview was awkward and unprofessional. I tried to keep the conversation going by asking questions, but it was uncomfortable and a waste of my time since the interviewer was unprepared.
- Can you describe your current role?
- What would you say are your strengths and weaknesses?
Underwriting Analyst
Got a first phone screen call that was about 30 mins. Then had to do 4 writing prompts. After that, I had 3 separate 30 min zoom interviews with people from the team (director of operations, Senior underwriting manager, senior underwriting analyst). Then, had 3 more phone interviews, each lasting 15-30 mins, with the executive team (CEO, CFO, VP of People). Everything went really well and they were all super easy to talk to.

Email Marketing Manager
So I talked to a VP on the phone for the first round. Then, they set up an in-person interview. For that, I had to do a presentation, which involved making an email marketing calendar, mock-ups for emails, and a dashboard for reporting. After that, I had the in-person interviews with the VP, the marketing director, and the communications director. Even though the job was a bit of a reach for me, I gave it my all and followed up. It was a bummer to get a generic email saying I didn't get the job, but overall it was a good experience.
