It was supposed to be a 5 stage interview process, but I only made it through 4. First up was an HR/Talent screen where we talked about my past experience and what I'm looking for. Then, a similar screening but this time with an engineer. After that, a technical screening with some open-ended questions about working with web apps. The fourth stage was a take-home assignment where I had to build a simple web app to interact with the provided data and data model. The final stage, which I didn't get to, would have involved discussing the design choices of the web app and possibly making on-the-spot modifications.

Behavioral Technical Presentation

The recruiting process at this company was a bit of a mess, despite their motto. It started off okay with an HR recruiter, who said I'd get an invite for the next round with the CTO. But then I was forgotten about and only got a reply after I emailed them myself five days later. The CTO interview had to be pushed back twice because of scheduling issues. It seemed to go alright, but I felt like it might be too late. The CTO said he'd talk to the recruiter about next steps. Eleven days later, the recruiter emailed me asking if I'd even talked to the CTO, which was weird since I thought she was supposed to follow up. I told her the interview was 11 days ago and I was waiting for her. She apologized, admitted she forgot to follow up, and didn't even know when the interview was. She then made excuses about being busy with other hiring. I could sense it wasn't going to work out, but I waited for confirmation. A few more days passed with no word. I emailed again for an update, and she just replied that they weren't moving forward because they found other candidates who were a better fit. No thank you for my time or anything. It was a really unprofessional and frustrating experience with HR.

Behavioral Other

I interviewed for an HR position. First, I met with the hiring manager, and it went great. Then, I had to do a hiring exercise where I recorded an instructional video about using the CommentSold platform. It wasn't even relevant to the HR role, which was a red flag. I needed a job after being laid off, so I did it and regrettably entered my credit card details to access the platform, as the hiring manager assured me I wouldn't be charged. A few days later, I got a rejection email saying my project lacked attention to detail. I was right to be suspicious because they started charging me $49/month ($98 total) two months later. They did refund me when I brought it to their attention, but they would have kept charging me otherwise. It sounds like they'll keep making future candidates do this exercise requiring credit card info. So, be prepared for potential credit card fraud if you interview with them.

Behavioral Technical Other

After an initial email exchange with recruiting, I had my first-round interview about a week later. A few days after that, I got an invitation for a second round and was asked to provide my availability. Then, nothing. I sent follow-up emails about one and two weeks later, but received no response at all. I really enjoyed my interview and was excited to continue, and I think the interviewer felt the same since I was invited to the next round. I have no idea why recruiting ghosted me. It was very unprofessional and doesn't align with a company whose first stated value is "don't be an a hole".
