First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Columbus Technologies And Services.
Mechanical Engineer
We had a web conference interview with the people who would be doing the hiring. It was pretty standard for the most part, but it gave a really good vibe for the role and the kind of place it is. They were really on top of communication about where things stood and setting up times, which was nice.
- How do you manage when you have more than one thing to do?
Systems Administrator
The interview process with Columbus was pretty simple, mainly inquiring about my years of experience with certain technologies. Then, I had an interview with the client, which unfortunately didn't go very well. The recruiter from Columbus sent me to the wrong building for my interview, making me 15 minutes late by the time I got to the right place. Once I started talking with the client, it seemed to be going great, everyone was smiling. Near the end, they asked about my education, and I admitted I never finished college. It turned out a college degree is required for the position, something the recruiter failed to check before sending me for an in-person interview. It's a shame to see roles like this still exist, especially since I have double-digit years of experience in many areas. I feel like I wasted at least 4 hours dealing with the recruiter and going through this pointless interview.
- Tell me about your experience managing users in Active Directory.
- Can you explain how to manage group policy?
- What are the 7 layers of the OSI model?
Project Manager
I got an email from a recruiter and they called me for a phone interview within a day. Then I had an in-person interview with the client a week later. A second in-person interview was supposed to be within another week but I was traveling. We sorted it out via email to reschedule and they were really good about communicating.
- Can you share an experience of managing a challenging client or project?
- What would your current supervisor say about how you perform your job?
Linux Systems Administrator
I had 3 interviews, and they were pretty straightforward. The questions were easy for me since I do this stuff every day. The interviewers were professional and repeated questions to make sure I understood them.
- Can you explain the Red Hat Kickstart process and security hardening processes?
