First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Columbia Care Services.
Residential Treatment Therapist
The interview lasted about an hour. It was a panel interview with three interviewers who asked standard questions. You got to ask your questions at the end. They sent an email beforehand with their values and tips on how to prepare.
- Given the company values, which ones really connect with you and which ones don't, and how do you implement them in your personal and professional life?
Residential Associate
I was called in for an interview at the facility. While waiting, I interacted with clients. I was asked about my experience and qualifications. I didn't have much experience with adults with mental illnesses, but I had education and other caregiving experience. They offered me the job (on-call) during the interview and told me how to proceed with the background check and QMHA verification. It took a couple of months to get my QMHA verification and background check done, so I didn't start right away.
- What QMHA qualifications do you have?
Residential Associate
You'll get a call to chat about your background. Then you go in for a meeting with one person. After that, you go back in for another meeting, this time with a few people. They might offer you the job right then, or they might put you through some questions. These questions will be about dealing with staff who aren't performing well. If it's a staff role, they expect you to act super professional and knowledgeable, like you have a PhD, even though your daily tasks will involve cleaning up messes. Don't let them know you realize this.
- The questions here show the management's arrogance. If they can't use counseling skills with their own employees, I can't help but wonder how they treat the residents.
- I also can't help but imagine that this is a widespread issue throughout the entire company.
Residential Associate
I applied online and interviewed at 3 places in 2013. They contacted me, and it seemed like each facility was doing their own thing. One place interviewing me had a risk of assault, with someone being assaulted that week, but another facility called me anyway. The interviews felt casual, like they were just chatting with me, usually with two interviewers. Some talked a lot, others asked questions about handling difficult clients, like refusing meds or yelling. They talked about limited advancement and pay from eleven to twelve an hour, but mentioned training as a positive. They seemed to decide fast. One place said they'd hire me but needed to sort the schedule, then ghosted me. Another called the day after the interview to offer the job, then withdrew it without explanation, citing 'at will' employment.
- What would you do if a client refused meds?
- What would you do if a client was yelling at you?
