First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Colorado Technical University.
Student Success Coach
I applied for the job and had a virtual interview. The interviewer and I had a good conversation. When I was asked why I wanted a remote position, I mentioned I have a disability that limits my mobility, and working remotely would be best for me. The interview ended and I got a rejection email shortly after. This happened two years ago. I've tried applying for the same job since, but it keeps saying I already applied and they blocked me from applying again. If you want to work for Colorado Technical University, don't tell them about disabilities.
- What makes you want a remote job?
Student Success Coach
I used to work for CEC and got laid off from AIU, and then I applied for this job on the CEC website. A friend who was also laid off from CEC reached out and told me their recruiter would call. The recruiter called me about 20 minutes later and asked general questions. They saw I used to work for CEC for a long time in a similar role. We talked about salary, and I acknowledged it might be lower than my previous salary, but I was okay with it since I'd be starting over. I was invited to an in-person interview with one person, but when I got there, two different people interviewed me because the original person was out. They seemed impressed with my background and previous time at CEC. I asked when I'd hear back and was told it would probably be before the holidays. Today, I found out I wasn't selected even though my background aligned with the job.
- Were there any challenging or surprising questions during the interview process?
Information Technologist
The interview process involved multiple stages, starting with a recruiter call, followed by a technical screen, and then an onsite interview. There was also a background check before an offer was extended. The questions asked touched on a variety of responsibilities I held, such as configuring, installing, and administering network infrastructure and telecom systems for a large university community (200 staff/faculty, 900 students). I also helped develop policies, defined acceptable IT asset use, and handled administrative tasks like user account management (desktop, email, Active Directory). My technical skills include installing and maintaining Cisco routers/switches, proprietary software, and coursework software. I also completed a full system migration.
- How do you interact with educators who are not technically proficient?
Marketing Manager
I was reached out to by a recruiter who thought I'd be a good fit for the role. On our initial call, I mentioned I was a student at the university, and they seemed surprised, even though they found me on LinkedIn and had my resume. The hiring manager also seemed surprised about this. Before the in-person interview, I had to complete an assignment that involved creating a presentation to go over during the interview. When I went in person, I met with the hiring manager, the VP above them, and the team I'd be working with.
