Behavioral Other

I interviewed for a job working with a federal agency. The interviewers seemed untrained in how to conduct interviews or the hiring process steps. The whole hiring process was a mess. The person I was supposed to follow up with about the job was a peer, not a supervisor, and couldn't handle negotiations. It's important to know who to talk to for negotiations. This was unclear, likely due to incompetence. I couldn't negotiate because the person who offered me the job had no authority to do so.

The hiring and interview process were streamlined and the panel moved quickly. Since this was a research position (and not a faculty position), I was required to only submit my CV and a brief statement about what I wanted to accomplish in the job within the constraints of the announcement. The interview was remote access with a committee of six individuals. Each person asked a specific question, and others were allowed to weigh in the answers I gave or ask follow-up questions.

it was a zoom interview with 5 people where we discussed my programming and research skillsets from the past 5 years, covering both academic and industry professional areas. It was a great experience.
