So I had two initial screening calls with HR, which were pretty formal and focused on my experience. The first one was super short, maybe 10 minutes. The second one was a bit longer, around 30-45 minutes, still about my background. After that, I had an in-person interview with the managers. This one was much longer, like 2-3 hours. It started with a few questions about my experience and skills, but then it really turned into more of a chat about industry knowledge and just seeing if I'd be a good fit personality-wise.

So I interviewed with Colony twice. First time, I talked to two hiring managers on the phone. It went okay, and then their HR person contacted me about coming in for an in-person interview. I gave her some times, but she never followed up. I tried to reach her, and she said she was busy and would get back to me, but I never heard back. A couple years later, they reached out again for a different job. I was hesitant but agreed to talk. They set up another phone interview with the hiring managers. The guy introducing himself seemed confused because he was in a lower position than expected, and he thought he was interviewing for a staff accountant role. We ended the call, and when I contacted HR, I never heard back again. Shocker.

Got an interview scheduled right after submitting my resume via a recruiter. I was told HR doesn't give Hiring Mgrs access, and I later figured out why. Even with my great professional and educational background, they hit me with basic journal entry and Excel questions. Both interviewers gave conflicting and uninspiring descriptions of their departments. They were condescending and unprofessional; they might be good at analysis but can't analyze people. They asked about the typical 50-60 hour work week, mentioning it can go over 60 during deadlines. Yikes!

An HR person emailed me about a preliminary call to go over my background and skills. She called on time and was really nice and professional. She then sent my resume to a hiring manager and was super responsive and easy to reach when scheduling. I met with a group of high-level professionals and thought they were great, but ultimately they felt it wasn't a match. The HR recruiter was awesome, and so were the other interviewers.
