So there were two interviews. The first one was like a get-to-know-you and background check. The second one involved making a video and then presenting it to the hiring team. It wasn't too bad, and the time they gave was fine.

We had a Zoom meeting that was supposed to be about 20 minutes long. A few staff members were on the panel, some of whom didn't seem to know much about the field, just general school staff. They fired off questions without really listening or responding to what was said. The whole thing felt kind of awkward and uncoordinated.

This job application and interview process is pretty much a formality. They already have someone in mind for the job before they even post it, so the application is just for show. It feels like a waste of taxpayer money and everyone's time.

I applied online and the department chair of Communication contacted me by phone. They had me submit all the paperwork, and then we scheduled an on-campus interview just before the spring semester started. I was told I'd be in a group interview with three other candidates in a conference room at the Spring Creek Campus in Plano. The department chair gave us sample syllabi and an employee packet with info on adjunct offices, email, contacts, etc. The interview lasted about an hour. Each of us was asked about our background and teaching preferences (speech communication vs. public speaking). We were able to schedule the time based on our availability. We also got to ask questions about the campus, class sizes, expectations for part-time faculty, and course formats.

  • Can you teach morning classes?
  • How do you teach public speaking?
  • Are you open to teaching during off-semesters?
