& Process

I sent in my application and a recruiter got in touch. Oddly, they had me call their office instead of them calling me, which felt like a red flag. Both the recruiter and the director I'd be working with were in San Francisco. The director asked some really good questions, while the recruiter just went through the typical Google questions. The director seemed professional and actually listened to me, but the whole setup seemed unrealistic since I'm in NYC and my boss would be in SF. I followed up via email, but the recruiter never responded.

I went through a phone screening, a performance task, a formal interview with two people, and then a second and final interview with two other people. It was a quick but intense process. My phone screening had to be rescheduled because the person didn't call. The questions felt basic and confusing, like they were just pulled from a random Google search. The performance task, which I was told would take a couple of hours, ended up taking over 10, and I wasn't paid for it. They also never mentioned salary at any point. After the final interview, I was ghosted for weeks, and based on other reviews, this seems to be a pattern. I'm not sure I would have even gotten a rejection if I hadn't followed up again.

The interview was set up fast and felt pretty chill, just me and the interviewer. I was asked to discuss my background and how I got into college, my experience with teaching or tutoring young people, my motivation for wanting to join CollegeSpring and my thoughts on their mission. Then, I had to work through and explain a math problem to her to see how I teach.

The two people interviewing me were super nice and chill. They asked some questions. For example, one interviewer asked what I would say to a student who wanted to drop out of high school or not go to college just because their friends were doing it. They also had me do a few SAT problems, picking one from the Verbal section and one from the Math section.
