I applied for a business instructor position and got an email from the Dean of Education a few days later. I went in for a chat that was pretty informal. We spoke for about half an hour about teaching and what the job involves. She asked me to send over my transcripts and we would see from there. The very next day, I got an email saying they decided to move forward with other candidates. I get that they might have thought I wasn't that into the job based on our talk, but I don't think the interview process was fair. Leading someone on and then just saying no is really unprofessional. I would have been fine with a simple 'no thanks' from the Dean, but she made it sound like I was progressing to the next stage.

I met with the Dean of Education in her office. She was very welcoming. We talked about the responsibilities of the role. I explained what I was not looking for in the position. Specifically, I wanted to focus on teaching and avoid administrative duties and organizational politics. I also wanted to minimize my involvement in meetings. My priority is to teach students and develop lesson plans. She agreed with my preferences.

I had an interview with the associate dean where we talked about the school's needs and my background. Then, I was called back to do a mock teach for all the instructors and deans. Some instructors asked questions while others were on their phones, so I had to manage the classroom and explain the rules like a real class. After that, I waited in the common area while they discussed. Finally, the director of education and associate dean talked to me again and offered me the job.

First, you'll give a 5-minute guest lecture to your peers, and they'll evaluate it. After that, you'll have a one-on-one with the college director. Then, we'll take a tour of the college, and you can ask any questions you might have or share your thoughts.
