Officer
So, I had two interviews. It started with a quick phone call to screen candidates. After that, I had a zoom meeting with a panel of 4 people where I had to prepare and deliver a presentation demo based on examples they gave me.
- Could you prepare and present a demonstration on a financial aid topic relevant to this position?
Program Officer
The interview process included a 30-minute phone screening as the first round. The subsequent round was an in-person interview lasting 2-2.5 hours with the team and supervisor. They provided substantial context on the student demographic and the organization's history, showing a strong commitment to the students. However, the in-person interview, initially planned for 2-3 hours, was unexpectedly shortened to 1 hour upon arrival. This was disappointing as I incurred travel and out-of-pocket expenses, and I would have declined if the interview length hadn't been misrepresented. Due to the condensed format, there was no opportunity for one-on-one discussions with peers in similar roles, and the supervisor dominated the conversation. Specific details, like the size of the group I would be advising, were unavailable. Additionally, there was no follow-up to indicate my status in the process.
- Can you describe your prior experience advising students?
- Have you had experience advising students from marginalized backgrounds in the past?
Navigator
The interview went really well, they ask you questions about past experiences with youth. The College Success Foundation focuses on getting students into college while making sure they are able to stay in college. We have a great staff that helps students all the way from middle school to high school to ensure this happens. Throughout the interview process you will need to know the mission statement and be able to speak on how you, as an individual, can work towards what CSF stands for.
- Can you describe a situation where you encountered diversity and explain how you managed it?
Program Associate
I found the job online and applied. No cover letter was needed. About a month and a half later, they called me in for an interview. They gave me the questions just five minutes before the interview and told me to answer as if they had never seen my resume. Then, I had to do a short Excel project on a computer to show my skills.
- What makes you want this job?
- Could you share your administrative background?
- Can you give examples of projects where you utilized Excel?
