College of the Desert Interview Questions
& Process

It was a disorganized and unprofessional interview process. The people interviewing weren't polite or kind. The job description they gave didn't actually match the role, making the questions they asked misleading and leading to dissatisfaction. The president is also shamelessly stealing money from the school and even said in the interview that she "needs someone that will not be afraid to back her up no matter the situation."

Before I started the interview, I had to do a 30-minute writing exercise about academic advising. After that, I went into a room for a panel interview with about 5-6 people. The Dean of Counseling was there, along with other counselors and staff. They were really nice and supportive, like they were cheering me on.

I applied online and waited weeks for an interview for the Adjunct Faculty position. The process involved a single level interview with a committee of 4 faculty and staff members. Before the panel interview, HR gave me 10 minutes to review the questions. However, the panel was rude and unprofessional, with one member wearing gym clothes and earbuds, and the chair being inattentive and dismissive. No one seemed interested. This experience felt like a joke, and I sensed they were just going through the motions.

I applied for the full-time faculty job in early June and heard back 3 weeks after the posting closed. A recruiter called about a week later to set up an interview, which I accepted. I was told the process would involve a 10-minute teaching demo and a 45-minute oral interview, both via Zoom. On interview day, I got the questions 15 minutes beforehand. I joined the Zoom and met the hiring committee (6-7 faculty). I started my teaching demo on a given topic. After that, the committee asked me questions one by one. A few days later, HR called to say I was selected for a final interview. Weeks later, I interviewed with the VP of Instruction and two faculty members from the original committee. It was a tough process, especially the 45-minute committee interview without seeing the questions first. After the interview, my references were contacted. Three weeks after the final interview, I found out I didn't get the job. The faculty and staff were really nice, though. I'm ready for the next opening!
