First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at College of Southern Nevada.
Administrative Assistant
It's a standard 30-minute interview with 3 people on the panel. They start by telling you about the job, like the hours and what you'll be doing, to make sure you get it. Then, they ask you questions from a list they have. At the end, you can ask them questions. HR will probably call you in a few days or weeks about whether you're moving on. It's pretty simple, but HR can be really slow, so you gotta be patient.
- Can you discuss your previous education and experiences and explain how they fit the requirements for this position?
Coordinator
I applied in mid-August and didn't hear anything until early December. No automated email, nothing. I was surprised since I thought I was a strong candidate. Then, suddenly in early December, I was told I was a finalist and given an interview time. The actual interview process was really organized and efficient. I had a panel interview with six people, a mix of supervisors and subordinates, and it was diverse. I was super impressed that the admin assistant was part of it, showing her input mattered. Everyone on the panel had a question for me. After that, I interviewed with two VPs, and they each had a question too. Everyone was friendly and responsive.
- What is your perspective on using metrics, particularly how perception data and engagement are sometimes undervalued compared to easily tracked short-term statistics like attendance numbers?
- Can you discuss your views on the importance of perception data and engagement metrics versus easily obtained short-term stats?
- How do you feel about the current emphasis on 'easy to obtain short term stats' in education and business, sometimes at the expense of metrics like engagement or perception data?
Accountant
Two interviews were conducted. The first one was an in-person panel interview where they asked basic questions but didn't follow up or show interest. It was short, about half an hour including my questions. I didn't get a clear picture of the next steps. References were contacted between interviews without me knowing, which is unusual as I prefer to give them a heads-up. The second interview was with the hiring manager and a board member. They again seemed uninterested in my qualifications and took issue with my needing to give two weeks' notice, which is standard. They also asked about DEI, which is unrelated to the job. I suspect they already had a candidate in mind.
- What are your thoughts on DEI?
Dental Assistant
The interview process was straightforward and the other assistants were helpful. The interview itself was brief. The offered pay was lower than what private practices typically offer. Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The environment felt welcoming upon arrival. Basic inquiries about my educational background and professional experience were made.
- Could you detail your educational background?
- Can you tell me about your experience?
