First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at College of Charleston.
Communications Specialist
It was a three-step process: first a phone screen, then a virtual interview, and finally an in-person interview. The last interview involved a committee and included standard behavioral questions, a discussion about work philosophy, and what the role would require.
- What makes you want this job?
Admissions
The interview process took too long for the salary offered. It involved three interviews and lasted about a month and a half from when I applied until I got the offer. They did cover travel and hotel expenses for the interview, though.
- Can you discuss your experience transitioning into a new career field?
- Do you possess the specific experience outlined in the job description?
CRM Director
I got an email two months after applying saying the job was still open and they wanted to interview me. A week later, I got an email to schedule a 15-minute phone interview. It was a roundtable with a committee and they sent questions to prepare. The interview started with everyone firing off questions without introductions or a chance to discuss my background. After the last question, the hiring manager ended the interview abruptly, even though there was still time left, and told me to email if I had questions about the position. It felt like they weren't interviewing me effectively, or maybe they already had someone in mind. Given the vague job posting, I expected the first interview to be an intro to the role and my qualifications, followed by a longer roundtable if we were both a good fit.
- Could you describe your leadership style?
Associate Director
Interviewed in early November for about an hour with a panel of 5 people. I was initially told they would make a decision that Friday, but I didn't hear back until the end of January. I sent a thank you and a few follow-up emails to the hiring manager, but never got a response about whether they were still considering candidates. My references were contacted and informed I was a top candidate. Ultimately, I received an email stating the position had been filled, which felt like a very impersonal process.
- Can you introduce yourself?
- What unique value do you offer for this role compared to other candidates?
