Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at College Forward.
College Completion Coach
I applied online through the AmeriCorps portal. Got an email contact within a few days to set up an interview. The email had a link that took me to a google calendar where I could choose interview slots and interviewers. I thought it was going to be a video call, but it turned out to be a normal phone call. It was the only round, but the interview was pretty long, over an hour.

College Access Coach
I sent in a general application for Americorps, and within a week, I was asked to complete a more specific application for this program. The very next day, they offered me interview dates, and I picked one for later that week. They ended up offering me the job six days after that.
- What's the oddest thing that brings a smile to your face?
- Imagine you're organizing a carnival with only $100; what attractions would you include?
- Can you share something you are actively trying to get better at?
Completion Coach
I had one interview over the phone with a current coach and a manager. I wasn't sure who the coach was at the time and thought it was someone else in a leadership role. The interview lasted about 30 minutes and was pretty standard: discussing your background, scheduling expectations, the organization's mission, etc. I was disappointed that I didn't get any follow-up information or a contact person for questions.
- Do you feel comfortable working with diverse groups of people?
- What kind of experience do you have working with students or in education?
College Completion Coach
I was first contacted through the Americorp website, and the process was pretty quick overall, taking just one week from start to finish. They were very responsive and kept things moving along efficiently. There was a phone interview and then an in-person one.
- Can you share an instance where you had to de-escalate a conflict or tense situation?
