First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at College Bound.
College Coach
The interview process included an initial phone chat with the volunteer coordinator, followed by a much longer phone interview with the department director. The first call involved some basic and behavioral interview questions and lasted about 45 minutes. The second interview was pretty extensive, taking 2 to 3 hours.
- Can you list three of your strengths?
- What would you do if a student was in a crisis?
College Prep Coach
I applied online and then had 2 phone interviews. The first one was with the AmeriCorps volunteer coordinator and a current AmeriCorps member. They asked general questions about my interest in AmeriCorps and College Bound. They asked behavioral and situational questions, like asking me about a time I fixed something that was falling apart and how I planned to live on a low salary. They also asked how I would handle specific student situations. The second interview was with the program overseers. They asked about my experience with youth and interest in the program, and then mostly situational questions related to the job. Both interviews asked about my preferred relationship with a boss and my ideal work environment. I'm still in the process and the next step is to make a teaching video.
- Can you describe a time you took something that was in disarray and restored it?
- How do you anticipate managing on a salary as low as this one?
- What are your strategies for dealing with particular scenarios involving students?
College Prep Coach
After you apply, they'll let you know if they want to do a phone interview. If you pass that, there's a second phone interview. If you make it past the second round, you'll get a homework assignment. After that, they'll tell you if they want to offer you the job.
- What would you do if a student called you lost and their phone was about to die?
Development Manager
It was a three round interview process. First, a phone screen, then I met the executive director, and lastly I met with the development director who would be my supervisor.
- How do you collaborate in a team setting?
