My resume was submitted, they were interested, and then they asked for references. I gave them my previous colleagues' and supervisor's emails. Then they asked if it was OK for them to call them. It seemed a bit weird that they wanted to talk to my references before talking to me, but I gave them the contact details anyway. They spoke with my references, and then there was no reply for days. I emailed them to check what was going on. The response was that they were looking for someone with cobol experience... Didn't you read my resume?!
- Can you describe your past experience?
Software Quality Engineer
This was not my first interview there. They usually do phone interviews and then multiple interviews over several hours with different people. I had a panel interview with HR, a Director, and a Manager. It was pretty relaxed and not too hard because they only asked standard questions like "What would you do..." or "Tell me about a time when...".
- Describe a situation where you had a conflict with a colleague and how you resolved it.
- Can you share an experience where you were assigned a task with minimal direction and explain how you managed it?
Marketing
The phone interview was great, a really nice lady from Kansas City called me three times about three different positions after our initial chat. She seemed very eager to get me in on a one-on-one. Finally got to the one-on-one and it lasted for 3 hours. Met everyone in the whole department, some 1:1, some in pairs of two. They weren't too threatening.
- What is your biggest weakness?
HRIS Project Lead
A recruiter reached out since my resume looked like a good fit for this role and they had great things to say about the company. After we spoke, about a week later, I had a phone interview with the recruiter and the hiring manager. They asked me standard behavioral questions based on my experience. Unfortunately, I didn't move forward because they decided they needed someone with formal management experience, which I wish I'd known upfront.
- Can you tell me about your previous position?
- What are your thoughts on relocating to KS?
