The interview process was normal, but the follow-up was less than positive. Within a few days, I received a phone message from the recruiter asking if I was available at 3pm the following day. I replied that I was. At approximately 2:45 the following day he called and said he was in a meeting and would call at 4. He called at 4:35, didn't apologize or acknowledge his delay, and then went on to tell me that I didn't get the job. I told him I was surprised that he had scheduled a phone call for that; in my experience, not getting an offer or sometimes even getting the offer, I've received a phone message asking me to call back, or in the former case, an email, e.g., "....we have decided to go forward with another candidate...". Scheduling a call gave me the impression that I was going to receive an offer, but he said they would never just leave a message or send an email as they thought the candidate deserved the courtesy and respect of being told directly. Personally, I would rather just receive an email or voicemail, unless they are going to give you useful information as to why you weren't selected, but regardless, the rescheduling of the call, and then calling 35 minutes late from the rescheduled time did anything but make me feel respected.

They began by discussing the job description and the company's organizational structure. I noticed the job description differed significantly from the initial posting. The posting suggested some travel would be necessary and that remote work was an option. However, during the interview, I learned that about 90% of the job would involve being on the road. It would have been helpful if this was clearly stated in the first posting so candidates could better decide whether to apply. The interviewer noticed my surprise about the travel requirements and was very understanding, suggesting this might be a recurring issue. Overall, it could be a good role for someone without family commitments.

I had initial phone screenings with the same Coinstar recruiter for three different jobs, all at or above Manager level. All three interviews went very well as far as I could tell. Having dealt with Coinstar as a customer for more than 10 years, I know their business better than most outsiders. Therefore, I thought I'd at least get a second interview. At the end of each phone screening, the recruiter told me that he would call me back within a specified period of time to let me know whether I made the cut for the next round. No call! After allowing another 4-5 days go by I had to call him back and ask the status of my application. It was at this point, each time, that I was told that I would not be moving on to the next interview. I understand that every applicant will not be contacted. However, when their recruiter tells you that he will call you back either way, I believe that he is obligated to do just that.

The interview process was quite thorough and took a while, spanning three separate sessions over three days. They ask a lot of behavior-based questions. The recruiters were professional and nice, and the hiring teams seemed prepared and excited. Business casual attire was appropriate. The offices where the interviews were held were very pleasant.
