Behavioral Technical Case

I passed the behavioral part, but the second round got me. Apparently, they're looking for something specific in an Excel model. If you've studied project finance, it should be pretty straightforward.

I had a 15-20 min chat with HR, then a 30 min phone interview covering basic finance topics. After that, there was about an hour-long project finance modeling test. Then I went to the office for an interview with 3 people (senior associates, vp). Next was a brain teaser modeling test, followed by another interview at the office with 3 people (directors, MDs). The interview was longer and harder than usual for IB, but it felt fair given how lean deal teams are at elite boutiques. Since about 80% of the job is modeling and you actually work on live deals, the modeling tests totally make sense. All the interviewers were really professional and nice. HR was also responsive and fast.

I had a really unpleasant interview process with CRC. I connected with 6 employees who were all amazing and after being referred, I was asked to first meet the Managing Director. After that went well, I was asked to proceed. Even though the original posting was for IB analyst, HR informed me that recruiting changed and they only want summer analysts, which contradicted what the CRC colleagues told me. I decided to continue anyway. I had a phone interview with HR and then the critical reasoning test. The critical reasoning test was a classic problem with 2 buckets transferring liquid from one to the other in an alternating fashion. I prepared a model that was operating fine and accurately. After walking the HR through my logic, I received an email saying I was moving to the next stage, which was a technical interview. The exact following day, I received another email saying I was not moving forward without any real explanation. The whole miscommunication and long time this took was unbelievable - the only reason I wanted to keep going is because I really liked the people I spoke to.

It was a long process. I got contacted for an interview and had a 30 min call that was kinda technical. Then I didn't hear back for a few weeks. When I finally heard back, they had me come in a few times and seemed unsure about moving forward. It became a lengthy, disorganized process that I lost interest in. I ended up finding a different job in the meantime.
