First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Coherent Corp..
Firmware Validation Engineer
Had a video interview with a senior manager from the Software Test Development team that lasted about an hour. It started with introductions and some basic resume and behavioral questions like why I'm interested in the company and this role. Then, they shared some links and asked me to solve two medium-difficulty DSA problems on LeetCode live. After that, they had a couple of bit manipulation questions ready, and I had to provide the pseudocode or outputs.
- Could you explain your interest in the Firmware Validation Engineer role?
Quality Engineer
The entire onsite interview took place over three hours. I was first able to tour the facility and meet a few of the nice associates. I was then lead to a conference room for a panel interview consisting of six men. After the panel interview had finished, I was asked to hang back to talk further with the QMR. He told me out of the 216 candidates, I was their top choice, and they’d be reaching out soon with further steps. A month and a half went by with zero follow up. Finally, I received a generic email from their HR department that I was not chosen. When I reached out for feedback to understand what I could have done differently, no one responded.

- Can you describe an audit finding and its subsequent follow-up?
Environmental Specialist
I had my first interviews with the hiring manager and an HR person. It seemed to go okay, and I was asked some common questions. At the end, they wanted me to send a summary of the interview to show I was still interested, and they said I'd hear back in about two weeks. Three weeks went by, so I reached out to the hiring manager, but got nothing back. A few days later, the HR person sent me an automated rejection message in a language I don't even speak. I tried contacting the hiring manager again for some real feedback, but still nothing. They present the company well during the interview, but I don't think that's how it really is.
- Could you explain your reasons for wanting to switch career fields?
Laser Systems Engineer
This is my second time interviewing with this company, and it'll probably be my last because both times were bad. I had a direct call with an employee who was kind of rude and judgmental about me needing to relocate, which I don't think is his business or should impact hiring decisions (I only live an hour away). Then, I did a live Teams interview, and the employee had audio issues and blamed me, being really blunt about it, even though it's never happened on my Teams calls before, so it was probably his end. The questions I asked about the company weren't answered well either, and they were kind of evasive. I won't be applying for future roles because of this.
- What does LASER stand for?
- Describe a time you had to work with a difficult coworker.
- What is your greatest weakness?
