First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cognistx.
Machine Learning Engineer
There were 2 rounds. The first was a resume walkthrough with some basic math and stats questions. I was also asked to look at their website to understand their business. The second round had more math/stats questions, including a task to build a regression model with given features. They also asked about the differences in feature selection/design for categorical vs. regression problems, and some basic NLP. Finally, I had to code a simple concept.
- Can you discuss some statistics or regression problems?
- Can you walk me through your resume?
- Given categorical and continuous features, what regression model would you propose?
Full Stack Developer
The interview process started with a general system discussion about a project scenario, focusing on design tradeoffs and data storage. Following this initial call, I was invited to the Pittsburgh office for a full day of interviews, which consisted of 4 rounds. The overall difficulty was average. Interestingly, the technical rounds were conducted by a product manager and data scientists, and one of them even admitted to not knowing how to solve the problem she posed. The most unusual round was with the CEO, who asked random puzzles and mental math questions completely unrelated to the developer role. This was by far the strangest interview experience I've had. Despite performing well in the technical interviews, I was ultimately rejected. I would not recommend interviewing here.
- Convert the entire row and col of a matrix to zero if a[i][j] is zero.
- What is the excel sheet column number?
- Can you design facebook search and tracking of friends?
Data Scientist Intern
I had my first interview with a Senior Data Scientist where we talked about DSA and my past projects. After that, a Data Scientist asked me some case study questions. The final round was a behavioural interview with the Product Manager.
- Do you have knowledge of basic ML concepts?
- Can you answer questions about basic DSA?
- Tell me about your projects.
Software Engineer
The process was quick. The staff were super friendly. I exchanged a few emails with people at the company. Then there were a couple of evaluative phone calls where most of the interview actually happened. Overall, it was a good experience.
