So the interview was at Mountainview Regional Library, part of the Cobb County Public Library System. I was brought to a private room for the interview. It was a panel interview with three women: the Library Circulation Manager, the Branch Manager, and the Regional Manager. We sat in a circle with our own tables and paperwork. The paperwork had info about the library, libraries in the county, accomplishments, community involvement, job details, benefits, pay, hours, and stuff. Each manager took turns going through the materials, asking if I had questions or concerns before we moved on. Then we started the interview questions, and each manager asked me some.

So before you can even apply, you gotta have your lifeguard certification. The interview itself is basically a water test. You'll swim 300 yards and do a brick test. Then, you'll practice some basic life-saving techniques with one of the staff acting as a 'victim'. They're just checking if you can do them right, remember your training, and are a decent swimmer. After all that, they'll ask about your availability. It's pretty straightforward, especially if you got referred by someone who works here or you already know someone.

I met with them twice and was then offered the position. However, the pay they offered was nearly $10,000 less than what someone with my education and experience should be making. When I asked about negotiating, they tried to downplay my years of experience and cited the 'entry level' nature of the role to justify the very low pay, even though my initial request in the first interview was within the job posting's range. It felt unprofessional and was a waste of my time.

I had a 3-person panel interview for a maintenance worker job. They asked general questions about my skills and what I could bring to the table. The tricky part was that it wasn't really a maintenance job, despite the title. Most of the work involved building theater sets for events. While this was one of the required skills, the online description made it sound like a standard maintenance role, which turned out to be not the case during the interview.

Confirmed questions1 question
  • Are you able to work with wood and construct theater sets for events?
