& Process

A recruiter reached out about some open roles and set up an initial phone screen. After that, I spoke with a Group Product Manager. The next step was a virtual on-site interview day with an Engineering Manager, another Group PM, a Director of Product, and a key stakeholder. The interviews were pretty thoughtful and aligned with the company's values. Interestingly, one role got eliminated mid-process, and the other was re-scoped in a way that didn't quite match my background. The recruiter still called me to go over the feedback.

The interview process wasn't very clear from the start. I'd have an interview and then get an email saying I moved on. When I tried to ask about the process, my questions were ignored, just like most of my emails to the recruiter. I was interviewing for two open roles, but didn't know which department or person I'd be speaking with until the call began. My final interviewer seemed distracted and wasn't really engaged in our discussion. He ended up not moving forward with me, but then contacted me months later for competitive intelligence.

The interview process was pretty standard for a product role. First, there were two phone screens, one with the head of talent and another with the hiring manager. Then, a virtual onsite interview that included a case study and involved meeting with people from Engineering, Design, BizOps, BD, and Product. Finally, I had a chat with the CEO. The whole experience gave me a strong impression of a company that's really driven by its mission and culture, and it was great to see how aligned everyone was. All the people I met were super accomplished, smart, and humble. The CEO spent a good amount of time with me after the offer to talk about his vision and the importance of culture as they grow fast. I was really impressed with the company, the product, and their market position, so I accepted the offer.
