Implementation Consultant
I went through 4 interviews for this role. It was a stressful time, and I didn't even get a job offer in the end. I get it, I'm a hiring manager too, and I know if someone's a fit after the first interview. This whole process felt too long and drawn out, especially since I never heard back.
- Can you walk me through your background and experience?
Designer
My interview experience felt way too long and drawn out, more than it needed to be. The phone and in-person chats were great, I really thought I had it in the bag. But after meeting with the higher-ups, they sent weird, almost accusatory questions by email about my background, like they thought I wasn't being truthful. I tried to clear things up, but I was so confused since the earlier interviews went so well. The junior and mid-level folks were nice, but management came off as kind of rude. Like someone else said, I got the vibe they were really looking for a guy for this job. I didn't get an offer, but honestly, I wouldn't have taken it. I don't want to work for managers who look down on women.
- The management team emailed me questions about my background that felt strange, as if they were accusing me of misrepresenting myself, even though the phone and in-person interviews had been very smooth.
IT Support
The interview process involved two initial in-person meetings with members of the IT team, which felt like a positive experience. Following that, there was a video call with the CIO. This second interview was a bit challenging due to perceived background noise on my end, even though my environment was quiet. The CIO came across as less personable, making that part of the interview feel awkward, possibly amplified by it being a video call. The overall process spanned about three weeks, culminating without an offer. I suspect my gender might have been a factor in not getting the job, as I didn't observe any women in the building and felt men were favored despite my skills being a good match. However, I did appreciate the CIO's personal email confirming the position had been filled.

Client Website Specialist
Applied and was asked to come in for an interview day shortly after. I met with the CIO and the Principal of the company, who appear to handle recruiting. I also met with the President. The interview lasted about 1.5 hours, and they extended an offer at the end. They inquired about my IT skills and experience relevant to the job duties. Nothing too unusual. When I mentioned I understood HTML, though I wasn't great at writing it on the spot, they had me read some HTML and then draw out what it represented. So, it's important not to misrepresent or exaggerate your knowledge.
