The interview felt really unfriendly. The people who opened the Toronto location said they were already running another branch in the Midwest. I get that they want to establish themselves, but it felt like they were just trying to reassure me that their ways worked. When they started talking about pay, it all made sense. Since they're US-based, they use a percentage-based salary, not an hourly rate, and have a really strict punishment system. There are so many ways they can deny you your pay, it's crazy! If you give a discount to make a sale (which they push you to do) and go over your limit or the 10-15% mark, the difference comes out of your salary. You get a set number of clients each month, assigned by management. They expect you to close at least half your sales to get paid. I don't think these rules can be legal in Canada, so I turned down the offer. I hope they adjust their business practices for the local market.

The hiring process was really slow, taking weeks just to set up a meeting, which felt like a warning sign. After the interview, there wasn't any follow-up even though they said there would be.

The interview process was easy. They were accommodating with scheduling, even when I needed to change it. The interview was really informative about the company and its processes. They walked me through the hiring process and compensation, and explained flexibility thoroughly. It really gave me a chance to feel like I owned my own business.

I saw an online ad for a design position, but it turned out to be for selling custom closets and built-ins. I checked the company online beforehand and saw many negative client reviews, which should have been a red flag. I interviewed with the manager who seemed unstable, another red flag. Still, I needed the work and thought I could manage by keeping to myself. However, once I was 'hired' (and I use that term loosely because it's commission-only with no benefits), it was clear this wasn't the role I expected.
