I applied online and had to submit a resume, cover letter, two recommendations, and a writing sample. I also reached out to people I knew at school or personally for recommendations and referrals. I had one phone interview, and since most interns are college students, in-person interviews aren't really common. They offered me the internship on the spot! Then we talked about where I could fit in based on what was available and what I wanted to get out of the internship, because the one I originally applied for was already taken.

Applying for this internship isn't something you can just do last minute. It requires essays, letters of recommendation from professors, and two phone interviews. It's important to keep track of all the dates and deadlines. If you're aiming for a summer internship, it's best to start talking to your professors or mentors in January or February so they have enough time to write a good recommendation. I applied for a fall position. I reached out to my professors in April, submitted my application by the June 15 deadline, and began the interview process in early August. The second interview, where I was offered the position, took place in mid-August. The internship itself kicked off in mid-September.

I applied in October and was contacted at the end of November for an interview. The interviewer was nice and explained the next steps and who would be in touch. A couple of weeks later, I had a final interview. I was told I'd hear back again, but I've received no communication since, even after following up. While I understand offices get busy, a quick email with an answer would be courteous. This lack of response after interviewing left a poor impression, and I don't know if I got the position.
