Senior Software Engineer
First up was an HR Screen that lasted about 30 minutes. Then, a Hiring Manager Screen combined with a Live Coding session, which was an hour. After that, another Live Coding Exercise, also an hour long. This was followed by a System Design interview, another hour. Finally, a Culture & Values discussion that took 45 minutes.
- Can you share your thoughts on our company values?
- What motivates your interest in joining our company?
- Where do you see your career heading in the long term?
Software Engineer
The phone screening was an easy interview. The virtual on-site was okayish. The coding part wasn't difficult, but they wanted the optimal solution, and I messed up by implementing a simply working one and ran out of time to fix it. Sys design was confusing; they asked me to design a specific part of a specific system without giving much detail about what's already implemented or what to focus on. After I spent about 10 minutes explaining the API server, they said it already exists, which was odd. The behavior interview was the classic type. I got rejected quickly with a long, copy-pasted message. When I asked for more detailed feedback, I got no response. Anyway, I'd try again, but it was a rather negative experience, definitely not a difficult interview with more collaborative interviewers.
- Tell me about designing a specific part of a specific system.
- Can you walk me through the API server?
- Tell me about yourself and your experiences (behavioral).
Software Engineer
My recruiter was super helpful, keeping me in the loop the whole time and answering all my questions. I chatted with six different people: first the hiring manager to see if my background fit and if ClickUp was a good match. Then, I had a technical interview focusing on component design and another for a coding challenge. After that, there was a culture and values chat, followed by informal talks with the manager and the SVP of Engineering.
- Can you design and architect a technical component based on a provided image, where interviewers act as your product managers and engineering partners?
- Can you solve a coding challenge?
- Tell me about your background and what you know about ClickUp.
