Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Clever.
Associate Recruiter
The interview process for this role was challenging but ultimately rewarding. It involved four distinct stages. Initially, there was a quick screening interview conducted via Zoom. This was followed by a mock interview. The third interview, also on Zoom, was a more in-depth discussion of your experience and background, lasting about an hour and a half. The final stage was an assignment designed to assess critical thinking abilities. I felt well-informed throughout the entire process, always aware of what to anticipate next. Despite the challenges, the recruiters provided the necessary information for me to prepare for each subsequent step. The entire process was completed in a couple of weeks, and any questions I had during business hours were addressed within 24 hours. Overall, it was a very positive experience, and I'm eager to start.
- In the third interview, I was asked to identify an area of expertise outside of my professional life.

The interview process started with a quick phone screen, lasting about 15 minutes. It felt rushed and impersonal, like I was just another applicant in a queue. Following that, I was asked to complete a written assignment on how I would recruit for one of their open roles. I usually avoid take-home assignments during interviews because companies tend to use your ideas without compensation. I spent several hours on this assignment, only to receive a standard rejection email afterward. Job seekers, be cautious about doing assignments during the interview process. It says a lot about a company's culture if they expect you to do unpaid work before an offer is even extended.
- Can you discuss your previous experience?
- What makes you want to apply for this role?
Senior Recruiter
I started with a phone screen with the TA Manager, which gave me a good overview of the role and the process, though it felt a bit quick. Clever uses the WHO method for interviews. Then there was a written assessment where I had to outline a strategy for filling a high-volume role. I spent a lot of time on it, drawing on my recruiting experience for similar roles. However, I got a generic rejection email after submitting it. It was a bummer not to discuss my strategy further or do a mock call after putting in so much effort. I asked for feedback but didn't get any. I know companies get lots of applications, so detailed feedback isn't always possible, but the whole process was pretty discouraging considering the time I invested. Oh well, sometimes it's just not the right fit. Wishing the team the best.
- Can you describe your professional background and experience?
- Could you elaborate on your experience with high-volume recruitment?
