First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Clever.
Content Team Lead
The interview process was thorough but wonderful! It started with an initial screening, followed by a paid trial assignment. Then, I had an interview with the co-founder and VP of marketing. Finally, I got to interview some people I'd be working with to decide if Clever was right for me. The trial assignment was time-consuming, but I appreciated that I was compensated for it. Plus, I do think it's a smart way to vet early on who can actually be successful in the role.
- Regarding each position I held, could you tell me about your accomplishments?
- What were the low points during your time in that role?
- Who were your collaborators in that position?
Content Team Lead
A recruiter reached out via LinkedIn for an interview. I did some research and saw many negative employee reviews, which raised some red flags. The initial interview involved standard questions about the company and my background. When I asked about the negative reviews, they mentioned some internal changes. I was still interested until the recruiter revealed there would be several more interviews and a paid assessment. Given the time commitment requested for multiple interviews and a lengthy assessment, especially considering the salary range offered, I decided not to proceed. I believe companies should respect candidates' time by keeping interview processes concise, ideally three rounds max, and any paid assessments should be reasonable in length and compensation.
- Can you tell me more about your background?
Content Writer
I started with an easy application and cover letter. Then I spoke with a Clever recruiter about the job and my background. Next, I did a paid writing assignment with clear instructions and good communication from the recruiter; I was paid promptly after submitting it. After that, I had two more interviews: one with team members and another with the founder/CEO. The CEO personally offered me the position and invited me to meet more team members before I accepted. While it wasn't the easiest process, it wasn't the hardest either, and I actually enjoyed it. Clever seems really open to feedback because older reviews mentioned unpaid writing assignments, but now they compensate applicants. I wasn't incentivized to write this review. I definitely recommend applying if you're interested in being a content writer at Clever; the people are thoughtful, and they're open to feedback and making changes. The longer process gives you plenty of time to see if Clever is a good fit for you, since you're interviewing them as much as they're interviewing you.
- Can you tell a story about your career path, from beginning to end, and explain how it influenced your interest in Clever?
