Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cleo (United Kingdom).
Technical Recruiter
I applied for a technical recruiter position they had posted in Poland. They responded quickly and I had an interview the very next day with someone from the TA team. She went over the company and team structures and their plans for growth. She then told me the next step would be a case study where I'd need to source candidates in Poland for their open roles. Watch out, it looks like they are trying to get free recruiting work.
- Could you share your salary expectations?
- Have you had previous experience working with sourcing teams?
Talent Acquisition Specialist
The process was pretty straightforward. Started with an introductory call with a recruiter. Then, had a second call with the hiring manager. There was also a competency-based interview and a values interview. They also included a presentation. It felt a bit repetitive in terms of content across the stages, but you did get to meet a good number of people.
- Walk me through your process for recruiting for an open position.
Talent Acquisition Specialist
I got a LinkedIn message for a TA role, then had a quick 30-min chat with the recruiter about how many roles I handle, OKRs, and the kind of people I recruit. After that, they set up a case interview with the tech recruiting team. This interview was... weird. The recruiter seemed totally checked out, messing with her phone, talking super fast and rushed. The case itself was strange too. They have this specific high-volume way of hiring for React jobs, but she barely explained it, leaving the whole thing as an open-ended 'let's brainstorm.' The whole thing felt really unenthusiastic. I never heard back after that, no news, no feedback. Honestly, I probably would've bailed myself. But it's just common courtesy to let people know, especially when they pushed for urgency and flexibility on scheduling... only to ghost the candidate. Super disappointing.
- Can you share ideas on how to improve the tech hiring process for React roles?
- What's your strategy for filling 6 React positions within a 6-month timeframe?
- If you were to join Cleo, what benchmarking and company analysis would you conduct?
