First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cleo (United Kingdom).
Frontend Engineer
Applied to Cleo when already in late stages with other companies. They provided a timeline for interviews which they stuck to, and I finished the whole process in under two weeks. Everyone was really nice and professional. They told me what to expect at each stage, which made prep less stressful. Honestly, it was one of the easiest interview processes I've gone through recently.
- Can you walk me through a previous project, detailing the challenges encountered and how you resolved them? What was the core problem addressed, and how did you quantify the impact?
- Please share your thoughts on Cleo's engineering principles, which are publicly shared, and how you interpret them.
- Describe your approach to working effectively with design and UX teams.
Frontend Engineer
I applied through their careers page and the whole thing took about 3 weeks. It was a really smooth and clear process. I got to learn a lot about the company, their mission, what they value, and I met tons of people from different departments. After the initial recruiter chat, I had a call with the tech team, then a pairing exercise, and finally, two separate interviews, each with two people. I ended up meeting 9 people in total, which was a great way for them to learn about me and for me to learn about them.
- Can you share an instance where you had to work with data to refine a product feature?
- What drives your interest in joining Cleo?
- In what ways do your approach and practices align with our established engineering principles?
Front End Developer
It was two pairing sessions. The second one felt a bit misleading, they said the process was more important than the outcome, but then they focused feedback on not getting the exact results within the time limit. If they'd been upfront about needing to hit specific results, I would have approached it differently, like building an MVP instead of aiming for a perfect product.
- Can you describe how you would structure the data flow for a large React application?
