Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Cleo (United Kingdom).
Data Scientist
The recruitment process was unclear. I was rejected multiple times initially, then a talent partner reached out for the same role. The interview feedback was unhelpful because they seemed more interested in asking questions than listening to the answers. It felt like the tech team, similar to the recruitment team, couldn't properly assess CVs. It's baffling that companies hire recruiters lacking basic CV reading skills, especially when my CV clearly shows relevant skills, projects, and experience.
- The questions asked were pointless, and the feedback provided was equally unhelpful.
Data Scientist
The candidate experience was one of the best I've had. Communication was clear and prompt, and there was useful and genuine feedback (both negative and positive) given at every stage, which I think is really important when a candidate takes their own time to do things like a take-home test. After receiving the offer, I was even offered a chat with anyone I wanted to speak to, including the CEO, just to give me a chance to get more info before making my mind up. One bit of constructive feedback I'd give is that the the cadence of interviews/stages didn't quite match up at various points to what I was expecting. E.g. one description of stages said the take-home test would immediately follow the initial screen, but I had an interview with a data scientist in between these stages.
- Could you describe a recent project you were involved in?
Data Scientist
So first, I had a call with a recruiter, they went over the company's tech stack, values, and what they look for culturally. Then, I had a live programming session with two people where they assessed my technical skills, how I solve problems, and my communication.
- Could you design and implement both single and batch inference pipelines while adhering to our MLOps framework, showing your understanding of production-ready model deployment, automation, and scalability principles?
