First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at ClearMotion.
Engineer
This role deals with vehicle development from initial concept design through to product launch and ongoing support. It involves working closely with customer engineering and management teams to achieve project milestones. The initial interviews were in-person meetings, followed by phone conversations with various team members.
- Can you describe a time you faced a challenge in vehicle development and how you handled it?
Systems Engineer
I was contacted by a recruiter who liked my background and set up a call with the team lead. I spoke with the lead on the phone, and they also seemed impressed and invited me for an in-person interview. Scheduling the onsite interview was a nightmare, though. I confirmed the date and time multiple times, but each was rescheduled. Finally, we settled on a date, and I showed up, only to find out the recruiter had forgotten to schedule the manager. I ended up talking to two people who weren't even involved in the role. The recruiter then asked if I could come back another time to speak with the group lead. It's been two weeks, and I doubt they'll ever get organized enough to schedule anything meaningful.
- Are you able to attend an in-person interview?
Control Engineer
So I applied for a control engineer role, and my background has been designing control algorithms for 7 years in various fields, with broad experience in electronics and mechanics. My first interview (a pre-screen) went well, and I was selected to proceed. However, the next morning, they rescinded the interview, calling me a "power guy" and saying I wasn't "control engineer enough" - which is funny because I'm really experienced in control engineering. I applied again several months later for another control position, but was rejected again because my background wasn't considered a close enough fit. Honestly, the hiring manager or TA person probably wouldn't pass their own pre-screening. Given their poor practices so far, even if they offered me a job now based on my old resume, I'd decline. If this is how they treat candidates, I can't imagine how they treat employees.

Computer Vision Intern
Got an email, then had a chat with a manager. After that, I got a take-home coding assignment with no deadline pressure. Finally, I presented my solution to the team, and they were pretty cool.
- Can you list some object detection methods you know?
- What are your strategies for optimizing the time complexity of an algorithm?
