Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Clay.
Software Engineer
The interview process consisted of an initial recruiter screen, followed by two back-to-back coding interviews, and concluding with a system design and project deep dive interview. The entire process spanned approximately six weeks. All interactions were positive and pleasant. The recruiting team provided helpful guidance and success criteria for the final round interviews.
- Did you encounter a coding question with multiple parts?
- Were you asked a question that involved using a public API?
- Could you describe a design question that was related to the product?
Software Engineer
I went through a pretty long interview process at Clay for a Software Engineer role that stretched over two months. It kicked off with a recruiter call, then there were two technical interviews, a behavioral one, and a chat with the CEO. After that, I had a system design interview and another call with the hiring manager. The process wrapped up with an office visit and a coffee chat. Once all the interviews were done, they put me on hold for a couple of weeks to sort out hiring numbers. Then they asked for two references, but that changed to four without clear reasons. Even with all that, I got rejected unexpectedly right before they finished checking my references.
- What motivates you to seek employment at Clay?
Software Engineer
I got contacted by a recruiter online and things moved fast. I had a technical phone screen with a question that wasn't too hard and not a leet code problem. After that, I moved to a second round which had two interviews happening on different days. If I didn't pass the first interview, they would cancel the second one. One of the interviews focused entirely on leet code problems, which I wasn't too keen on.
- Can you solve this leet code algorithm problem?
