Sales Manager
The process took a while. I spoke with two managers and the VP of sales. They were all pleasant, and I'd happily interview with them again. I turned down the offer because I relocated to another state.
- Could you describe your previous experience?
Product Operations Administrator
I applied online and a week later the HR Manager emailed me to schedule a phone interview for the next day. I spoke with the Sr. Manager on the team for about 30 minutes. We went over my resume and skills, and they asked some behavioral questions. A week after that, I got an email to come in for an in-person interview. This interview was with the Sr. Manager and two Supervisors and lasted 30-40 minutes. We talked about behavioral questions, skills, and other standard interview topics. They also gave me an Excel test at the end, which I was told about beforehand. About a week later, I got another email to meet and have a short interview with the HR Manager. This 30-minute chat was a chance to get to know each other and learn more about the company. They also asked a few interview-style questions and discussed pay if it hadn't been covered before. After I got all my questions answered, they said they'd let me know if they were sending an offer.
- Can you tell me about your weaknesses?
- What are your strengths?
- What skills do you have?
Product Manager
I had a recruiter call first and then received a call to schedule my phone interview. The phone interview was a bit different than I expected, but I passed it. Then, I was told there would be an Excel test a week later. My recruiter was helpful and coached me on how to prepare for the test. I scored 85% on the Excel test, which was above the state average of 75%. My recruiter mentioned that if I passed the final interview, the job would be mine because the other candidate only got 72% on their test, and I had more qualifications. I did great on the interview questions and the Excel exam. When the recruiter called about my interview, they said the interviewees thought I was too qualified for the position. I found out online that 'too qualified' means I would be too bored and likely quit soon. I have a BA and 10 years of experience, which I don't think is that much. I emailed the director about it, and he was upset.
- Could you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses?
Software Engineer
The first interview was a phone call, and it seemed to go well. After that, they invited me for an in-person interview. The entire one-on-one in-person interview lasted for 3 hours with 4 interviewers.
- There were unexpected questions from people in different departments, and while they sounded friendly, they weren't totally friendly.
- There were several of those unexpected questions from cross-department peers, and they were too long to list.
