First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Clark County School District.
Teacher
It was a typical teacher interview. The resume was not as important as my personality. I was basically offered a job on the spot at a Title 1 school. I interviewed at two schools and got offers from both.
- What do you know about our community?
SPED Teacher
The interview process was pleasant for me. I got an email and call from HR saying I was qualified. Then, I got a call from the school I applied to. I was invited for an interview with the principal, assistant principal, and the support team for SPED. They were all very kind and asked me questions about myself and my interest in this position.
- How would you manage a challenging situation with a student who is having a bad day?
- In a situation where you cannot control it, who could help you?
Substitute Teacher
My interview experience was really nice and professional. It was an online interview. I was asked six questions, and I answered them all. The interviewer seemed to be taking notes as I spoke. At the end, I got to ask questions. I asked about the most crucial aspect of being a substitute teacher. She explained that following the teacher's lesson plans and detailing how each lesson went is essential.
- Can you describe your approach to classroom management?
- What do you consider the most critical responsibility for a substitute teacher?
- How would you approach following a teacher's provided lesson plan?
Middle School Teacher
I applied online through CCSD, and the application was pretty long and a bit confusing to use. There wasn't a lot of communication from the district, but the staff I did talk to were really nice. Schools usually reach out if they're interested. I actually got 7 interviews within a month. Most schools were cool about me being out of state and offered phone or Skype interviews. One school was super rigid though, and before they'd even interview me, they wanted me to drive to Vegas to teach a class as a mock lesson. Some places require you to teach a demo class for a day or send in a video of yourself teaching. The school I ended up getting hired at didn't do any of that; I just had a phone interview and heard back in two days. After getting hired, both the district and the school were super helpful with all the clearance stuff.
- Are you willing to help out with school sports, activities, or clubs?
- Describe a situation you faced with a difficult student.
- How do you use technology in your teaching?
