First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Claremont McKenna College.
Working Student
I'm interviewing for a human capital management internship in New York. I was asked many behavioral questions, and I think I did pretty well on those.
- What is your primary motivation in life?
Data Engineer
It was a pretty chill interview, mostly asking questions about my past experiences and how I handle different situations. It was a pleasant interaction with a nice team, and thankfully, they didn't get too deep into the technical stuff.
- Can you share an instance where you faced a conflict?
Student Assistant
It was a very friendly, warm atmosphere. We talked during an open house. There wasn't a real interview process, just needed a cover letter to see if you'd be a good fit. Lots of internship opportunities to leverage.
- What makes you interested in human rights?
- Can you share your high school experiences?
Program Director
I had a phone interview with three people who were all on speakerphone. One person I could barely hear. There were supposed to be four interviewers, but one person didn't show up. I felt pretty strongly that one of the interviewers already had an internal candidate in mind, so the interview felt like it was just going through the motions. The three interviewers were surprised when I asked three real questions about how key tasks were accomplished and the role of the advisory committee.
- How would you manage conflicts that arise between your program staff and faculty members who have a stake in the program's direction and results?
- What kind of new projects or collaborative partnerships would you look into starting?
