Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at Civil Service United Kingdom.
Relationship Manager
It was a panel interview with 3 members over Teams. Preparation felt manageable because similar questions are widely available online. They asked me 3 behavioral questions, each focusing on a particular behavior, and 2 strength-based questions.
- Regarding communication and influence, could you share an instance where you had to explain complicated information to a non-expert audience and how you made sure they grasped your message?
Risk Manager
Since it was during Covid, the interview was virtual over Teams. They asked me a bunch of questions about my experience and the role. I used the STAR method and my background to answer them.
- What's your approach to handling scenario X?
Public Policy Manager
So, first there were some online tests, like math and english stuff, and this ethics test where you had to pick the best option out of four. Then there was this big written submission where I had to give examples of times I showed certain behaviors, instead of a regular cover letter. After that, I had a video panel interview.
- Could you share an instance where you faced and overcame adversity in a professional setting?
