I went in expecting a proper conversation, but the interview was a complete waste of my time. It seemed like they weren't really interested in getting to know me from the start. I was interviewed by someone who didn't even introduce herself, and she immediately started asking questions that seemed irrelevant to the job or my background. After about 15 minutes of pointless small talk, she quickly ended the interview. It felt like she had already decided before I even got there. There was no depth, no respect for my time, and it wasn't professional at all. A really disappointing experience.

First, you'll email the Principal Investigator about the opening. If they're interested, they'll invite you for an interview. There might be a second interview, after which they'll let you know the outcome via email.

We had a 30-minute take-home written test. They emailed the questions, and we had to send back our answers in a Word document. Then there was a Zoom interview, lasting about 15 minutes, with one professor and two HR people.

I interviewed for a Clerical Officer role at City University of Hong Kong's Department of Management. The whole thing took over an hour and just felt unprofessional from the jump. They started in English, which was fine, but then they asked for my social media content examples from my last job. Instead of a real chat about it, the interviewer just laughed and made mean comments about my posts, no real feedback given. When I asked about it, they just said they didn't get it and didn't explain more, which was weird and rude. They kept harping on about my last job's commission and asking about my old salary, saying stuff like, 'You're so new to this, there's no way you should make that much. We'd only offer 18K max.' It felt like they were downplaying my experience. They asked three times if I could show proof of my salary, and didn't let me explain. It was super untrusting. Then they said I seemed 'too shy' for sales in my last role and doubted my ability to do this job. They also said my social media work was 'too simple' and 'didn't need special skills,' ignoring the work that goes into it. Even more concerning, they questioned if the products I sold were real, saying 'no clear way to verify' their authenticity. This felt like a personal attack. On top of all that, they asked really personal questions not related to the job at all. They asked if my family funded my overseas education and then how much I pay back monthly. They also asked how much I give my parents for house expenses. These questions were inappropriate and had nothing to do with the job, making me really uncomfortable. I was also asked about my tuition fees and total costs for my studies abroad, which felt like prying into my finances. I said I didn't want to share that info, and it felt disrespectful because it crossed a line. These questions had zero to do with the job. It's also worrying they casually mentioned the department has a high turnover rate. Basically, it was a terrible interview. The interviewer was dismissive, unprofessional, and intrusive. They didn't respect my experience, qualifications, or personal space. They really need to fix their interview process.
