Candidate interview experiences
First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of Vancouver, Canada.
Business Analyst
The interview process was organized, but it wasn't the screening interview that was communicated. The hiring manager was disrespectful and didn't turn on her camera for the virtual call, but asked me to. She then bragged about her position. Some questions were borderline inappropriate for private sector HR. When I asked basic questions, the answers were vague and hostile. It's not a good look for a public sector organization in an inclusive city.
- Could you share some information about yourself and your background?
Business Analyst
There are 2 phases to this interview. First, a 1-hour situational and technical interview. They might ask you to bring a copy of your past work, like process maps. They'll generally check if you're familiar with standards. Second, if you pass phase 1, you'll have a test on Excel Data analysis, stigmatization, visualization, and presentation skills. You'll get a laptop, questions, and uncleaned data, and have 2 hours to do the test and create a presentation. This will be followed by a 1-hour interview where you present to the team after the test.
- Can you share a failure you've experienced?
- Tell me about a failure you remember.
- What's a failure from your life that you recall?
Systems Analyst
Initial interview was a phone call with a nice HR/Technical Recruiter. The second interview was a face-to-face panel interview. I had a great time, they were just talking casually and assessing my fit for the role. Felt good afterwards, no judgment. Hope to join the team soon, amazing company.
- Can you share details about your past experiences?
- Please provide examples of your behavior in certain work situations.
- How would you handle specific hypothetical scenarios?
