First-hand accounts from people who interviewed at City of Sugar Land (Texas).
Data Consultant
I had a phone screen, then I went in for an in-person interview. A panel of 4 people interviewed me. The vibe was pretty relaxed and informal.
- What is your knowledge about Sugar Land?
Maintenance Technician
It was an easy interview. There were 3 people on the panel. They asked 4 questions total. They wanted to know what I knew about the company, so you really have to do your research.
- Tell me about a time you faced a challenging situation at work.
Arts Coordinator
I applied for the Coordinator job and they called me to set up an interview after a few weeks. The first interview was a phone call with the Manager. They seemed nice and professional. They said I'd hear back in a week, but it's been a few weeks now and I haven't heard anything. It's a bummer when you don't even get a rejection email. Based on this, I wouldn't suggest applying here.
- Can you tell me about your experience negotiating contracts?
Project Manager
I applied online and got 2 interviews. The first interview had about 3/4 leadership questions and 1/4 project management questions. The second interview involved a presentation I gave and a walkthrough of the buildings I would be managing. I didn't feel great about the first interview, but I think I did well on the second one, so I thought I had a pretty good shot. What really got me though, was that I asked the panel for feedback on their decision, and they said they'd get back to me. I never heard anything back, not an email or a call, about the final decision.
- Can you describe your leadership style and how you apply it when managing subordinates?
- Have you previously been involved in contracts and procurement?
