In-person panel interview back in Oct. 2022. It was kinda awkward, I was the only one wearing a mask. The interview felt really formal, like I was talking to disconnected office phones with old computer monitors for heads, with questions just displayed. They mentioned that silence shouldn't be seen negatively, as it might mean the decision was already passed to HR. I guess I'm still hoping, even after 16 months, that silence isn't always bad, since the city's HR department still hasn't told me anything about the outcome.

Applied online in Jan 2021. Got an email in Feb 2021 asking if I wanted to interview in March 2021. We arranged a date and time. In March 2021, I interviewed with 3 people, one of whom was the Director of the department. A few days later, I got an email asking for my references. About a week after they checked my references, the Director called to offer me the job. We didn't actually talk until April 2021 because we were both busy. In April 2021, I had a background check and drug screening. After passing, I was supposed to get a start date. In May 2021, after my background check, HR gave me 3 start date options. I chose the latest one, but then the Director called to rescind the offer because she needed me to start on 5/10/21. This is outrageous! If I didn't have a choice, why offer me three options? Luckily, I have other options. I'll never apply here again. It's very unprofessional, especially if you live out of town.

I applied through the city's job line and got a call for an interview about 4 weeks later. It was a panel interview with the hiring authority and two other managers. They asked about 15 questions covering situational stuff about office practice, how to handle difficult people, budget, general accounting, and how I use Microsoft Office.
